Brockholes Nature Reserve

Brockholes Nature Reserve

Brockholes Nature Reserve offers a unique outdoor learning opportunity. Once an active quarry site, Brockholes has been transformed into a nature reserve with a variety of habitats including wetlands, woodlands and meadows.

The Activity Room is located on the UK’s first floating Visitor Village (with access to toilet and hand washing facilities) and there are several fantastic outdoor classrooms located in the woodlands. Our new purpose-built bird hide classroom, located right on the edge of the No. 1 Pit Lake, is due to open in 2015.  We offer a wide range of programmes including Big Adventure in a Miniature World, Life Cycles, Migration and Hibernation, Environmental Art, Geography and Geology, Survival Skills and Forest Schools.
