Derby Cathedral
Derby Cathedral
Here at Derby Cathedral, we run educational visits for children of all ages, from nursery through to secondary school. With prior discussion, we can focus the visits on particular aspects of the curriculum, for example ‘Preparing for Christmas’ in Key Stage 1 and ‘The Tudors’ in Key Stage 2.
We offer the groups the chance to:
-
View the Cathedral, study the building, its history and artefacts and its position in modern society.
-
Climb the tower (junior age and over), see the bells and clock in action and enjoy the exciting views over four counties (weather permitting).
-
Visit the beautiful St. Mary’s Bridge Chapel, just a few minutes away, but with such a vivid contrast in atmosphere and a fascinating history of its own.
-
Explore the inspirational Irene Acker’s Garden, set out to follow the life of Jesus through its signs and maybe an exercise in finding your own clues to the story (available April – October).
-
Experience the Vestments used in our services and understand the significance of their colours in relation to the church calendar.
We welcome groups from special schools and are happy to tailor our timetable to suit their requirements.
