Goodleaf Tree Climbing

Goodleaf Tree Climbing

We’re not a high ropes course!  We offer a unique recreational tree climbing experience climbing in one mature oak tree in a seaside park in Ryde, Isle of Wight and we pride ourselves on offering a safe, fun and educational experience that is personalised and suitable for a wide range of ages (over 8) and abilities.

Recreational Tree Climbing is a unique adventure activity that is brilliant fun and enables people to connect with the natural environment in a totally new way.

A typical session:

We meet under the tree for an introduction to the park and tree climbing, followed by a health and safety briefing including ‘The Rules of the Goodleaf Tree’. After getting everyone into gear (helmet and comfortable harness) our facilitators practice the tree climbing technique with individuals on the ground.

Once we’re confident our climbers have learnt our technique, they are able to safely ascend up to 16 metres into the tree canopy, or just as high as they feel comfortable with.

Hands on learning:

Using clear and simple instruction we teach a special tree climbing technique that enables climbers to ascend into the tree using rope and harness. Climbers will make the most of their leg strength to help them ascend on the rope, tying a special knot at frequent intervals. Once in the canopy there’s the opportunity to climb through the branches, perch on limbs, swing around and take in the birds-eye view.

The challenge:

For some climbers, simply getting to the first branch (at about 4 metres) is an amazing triumph, whilst others like to climb as many different ropes in as short a time as possible. We believe in everyone achieving as much as they possibly can and encourage independent but supervised learning that fosters a sense of self belief in our climbers.

Health and Safety:

We take the safety of our climbers extremely seriously. We use quality equipment which is tested every six months by an independent LOLER inspector.

Our staff:

We employ mature, experienced Facilitators including an ex-teacher. We train them in recreational tree climbing. Goodleaf is the only company worldwide to offer a Facilitator course that is backed by an independent awarding body. We also train all our staff to deliver a high quality customer experience.

The Climber to Facilitator ratio is a maximum of 6:1
