Lake District Coast Aquarium

The Lake District Coast Aquarium is a great all weather attraction for all age groups, with stunning live displays and other attractions for all the family. It has just the right balance of fun with learning!

The Lake District Coast Aquarium is situated on the harbour side at Maryport in Cumbria

The Lake district Coast Aquarium opened in May 1997 and since then we have won several tourism awards including the Cumbria Tourism Award 2010.

The Lake District Coast Aquarium Maryport houses over 55 themed tanks containing a variety of the marine life found around the Cumbrian coastline, from fish to crustaceans, as well as a purpose built tropical marine community reef tank.

School Visits

We can cater for any number of school groups that wish to visit the Aquarium. You will receive your own guided tour by an aquarist, which will be tailored to meet your needs. Also included is the use of our new educational building the "Wild Solway Centre", which can be used to eat packed lunches in warmth and comfort, and also to show presentations on our audio-visual theatre. All this is included in the price. If you are going to visit us you must book to avoid clashing with other schools….we are very popular at peak times (May-June) so don’t leave it too late! We do expect payment on the day.

The display area is packed with relevant information for projects on marine life and local ecology. We can send you a teacher information pack and copies of worksheets if you contact us. A Health and Safety hazard assessment can be sent in advance of your visit, or can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
