Carlisle is an area with a wealth of historic attractions; you can join heritage trails that will submerse you in the areas history. There are also plenty of fun attractions if you after a more casual visit including climbing walls, miniature model museums and nature reserves.

But of course on Carlisle's doorstep is the majesty of the Lake District, a compact glaciated upland landscape of radiating U-shaped valleys, many containing long narrow lakes. Rocky mountain tops, open fell pasture and heather-covered slopes contrast with native woodland, exotic plantations and stone-walled fields in the valley bottoms. The resulting landscape has aesthetic unity marked by contrast in detail: mountains, moors, lakes, woods, streams, fields, stone walls, farms, villages and small scale industry, reflecting its relative geographical isolation and gradual development.

Countless adventurous activity providers are based or are active in the Lake District, with mountaineering, orienteering, fell walking, canoeing, climbing, abseiling, open-water swimming and of course the opportunity to camp or bed-down in a boarding house providing fantastic exercise, outdoor adventure and leadership opportunities for students from across the UK.

Not only is the Lake District beautiful and adventurous in itself, but it has also proved an inspiration to artists and writers such as Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth over the centuries.

FSC Day Opportunities: Lake District

In addition to our two residential centres in Cumbria, FSC has a dedicated team of teaching staff who deliver full or half day courses for schools using the stunning locations found within the Lake District. A typical day begins at 10.00am when one of our teaching staff will meet you at your chosen site.

Robinwood Activity Centre - North Pennines

Bassenfell Manor Christian Centre

The Manor is the ideal centre for school groups and other groups. It is well equipped to cater for up to 69 in number. Enjoy the experience of our adventure equipment in the grounds - there's something for all ages. You could abseil from the balcony, climb a crate tower or have a go at archery, to name a few of the activities on offer.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

Castlerigg is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles, with panoramic views and the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat as a backdrop.

It is also among the earliest British circles, raised in about 3000 BC during the Neolithic period. 

Mayburgh Henge

A large and impressive Neolithic henge, much better preserved than neighbouring King Arthur's Round Table. Its banks stand up to 3 metres (10 feet) high, and unusually are constructed of pebbles collected from the nearby river.

Near the centre is a single standing stone: old drawings suggest that it was one of a group  here, four more having been removed from the entranceway.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
