Louth Museum

Louth Museum

A great little local museum with plenty to discover such as a panoramic view of Victorian Louth, the story of the Ghost of the Green Lady, rock and fossils, plus 200,000 years of local archaeology!

Louth Museum will take you on an amazing journey of discovery, with several galleries, plus a courtyard to explore.

Kids will love looking at the bird’s eye all round view of the town and district, on a summer day during the 1840s, with loads of fantastic details to spot, especially in the foreground.

Another great display is the ‘Do you Dig Archaeology’, which includes Bronze Age axes, a rare Roman saucepan, Stone Age flint tools, plus Roman pottery that you can touch and feel.

There is a Children’s Activity Zone, where kids can dress up as a Lord or Lady, and a great cabinet full of Edwardian and Victorian collections of stuffed small mammals and birds, plus butterflies and moths to examine.

The Town Gallery has a large collection of beautiful wood carvings, with some incredible details to enjoy, plus a collection of bicycles and even one of carpets!

Kids can also learn about the flash flood of 1920, with an interactive buttons to identify the location of illustrated events that can be seen on the floor map.
