Museum of Lincolnshire Life
Museum of Lincolnshire Life
Great local museum which celebrates the culture and social history of the people of Lincolnshire from 1750 to the present day. There are a number of exhibits, which illustrate commercial, agricultural, industrial, and domestic life.
The museum is also home to an authentic WWI tank, called ‘Flirt’, plus it houses interactive galleries of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, which can help people find information about family members who served there.
Kids will love the History Hunters playground, which is great for letting off steam. And you will all enjoy exploring the museum together, looking out for displays, objects and aspects of the building’s military past, all of which inspired the playground.
You can visit the Ellis Windmill and there is always a Children’s Trail available to ensure that the youngest visitors can discover every nook and cranny, and once complete, kids get an official History Hunter badge!
School Trips
The Museum of Lincolnshire Life welcomes visits by school groups and learners of all ages.
Our site offers pupils the opportunity to explore the main social history collection in Lincolnshire with exhibits dating from 1750 to the present day.
We offer a popular range of educational activities, linked to the National Curriculum. Teachers and pupils (for a modest charge) are offered:
- opportunities to access and handle real artefacts and examine archival images and documents
- stimulating ‘first person’ interpretation sessions led by our staff
- activities which complement work done in the classroom and link with National Curriculum requirements
- a newly refurbished and dedicated Learning Space for activities and lunchtime requirements
- teacher information packs are available for all sessions which include background notes and information about activities and resources
Sessions are available for booking Monday to Friday during term time and can include half or full day visits. We recommend booking at least six weeks in advance to ensure availability.
We welcome visits to the museum by teachers leading their own school groups. There are a number of handling kits we can make available for use at the museum during your visit. Please call to book these and to discuss your requirements.
Complimentary Planning Pre-Visit
Teaching staff are encouraged to make a complimentary pre-visit to complete their Risk Assessment and review teacher-led handling materials. Staff will be happy to help answer any questions regarding your visit.
