National Forest Adventure Farm
National Forest Adventure Farm
The National Forest Adventure Farm offers exciting indoor fun, outdoor adventure and farm animal experiences.
And in 2014 we became World Record Breakers - by making over 3,300 scarecrows!
Outdoors at the National Forest Adventure Farm you will find a Funfield packed with “have-a-go” activities including pedal Go-karts, sand pit, mini assault course and Farmyard Crazy Golf. You can test your football skills with ‘Beat the Goalie’, bounce on the giant jumping pillow and dig for bones in the Fossil Pit. If you’re prepared to get wet (very wet), take on the challenge of the Water Splash-Out*. There is also an under 7’s play area. Little ones can explore ‘The Brig’ pirate ship play equipment.
In the Courtyard area, show off your driving ability on the mini quad bikes and test your aim on the Tin Can Alley and Skittles.
A visit to the Farm is not complete without a Tractor and Trailer ride. Take a tour of the Farm and try to spot all the scarecrows.
In the summer, try and conquer one of Europe’s largest maize mazes. We use a computer generated plan of the maze and with the latest in GPS technology plot out the pathways of the giant 10 acre maze. We then cut out the pathways while the maize plants are still young.
NEW KITCHEN GARDEN
Our new Kitchen Garden is an enjoyable way to find out where our food comes from and what processes go in to growing vegetables, herbs, fruit trees and flowers.
NEW BARREL STAMPEDE RIDE
Take a fun family ride on the new barrel stampede. A train of 8 barrels is pulled round a newly designed track by a mini tractor.

Events

The National Forest Adventure Farm started life as the National Forest Maize Maze back in 2004. Each year has grown and grown until the Adventure Farm opened as an all year round attraction in May 2011.
The National Forest Adventure Farm is on Postern House Farm. Farmed by the Robinson family, it is a typical East Staffordshire family farm. The total unit is just over 500 acres (202 hectares) with some of the land lying out as far away as Rolleston on Dove. It is a ‘mixed’ unit, which means that both arable and livestock farming are practiced on the farm. Until February 2005, there was a 190 cow dairy herd, but this was sold due to a change in policy. Aberdeen Angus beef cattle are the primary stock found on the farm now, with grassland let for winter sheep grazing. Arable crops grown include Oilseed Rape, Wheat and, of course, Maize.
The farming practices have altered enormously at Postern House Farm in the last few years. In 2002 the partnership successfully entered a 67 acre (27 hectacre) block of land into the National Forest. This has created habitat for a variety of wildlife and increased flora diversity in a relatively short space of time. Species of birds such as the Lapwing and Skylark have benefited from land being left undisturbed through the winter, whilst the creation of feeding areas and the increase in invertebrates have led to a more plentiful supply of food.
