Satrosphere Science Centre

Satrosphere Science Centre

Satrosphere aims to inspire the scientists of tomorrow and to spark renewed interest in university science courses, currently in decline.

Satrosphere was Scotland's first Science Centre. It contains exhibits which are aimed mainly at younger children. It attracts primary school groups around the year and its exhibits are 'hands on' so that everything can be played with and examined.

Originally opened in 1989 we have been engaging people with science for over 21 years. Using interactive, hands-on exhibits and live science shows we engage our visitors with science to help them discover more about the world and the science of how things work. A visit to Satrosphere will not only inspire the scientist within but will entertain the whole family.

By visiting Satrosphere, as well as enjoying a fun learning experience, you will be helping us to provide engaging science education for schools and the wider community, supporting science literacy today.

Accessible science for all...

Our goal is to offer inspirational science experiences for learners of all ages and abilities. As a member of the Scottish Science Centre Network, Satrosphere Science Centre is an HMIE-inspected educational organisation and offers support for school and community education in line with the Curriculum for Excellence.

At Satrosphere there is a range of exciting educational resources. The main exhibition floor allows pupils to interact with over 50 exhibits with various science and technology themes. This facilitates learning in a fun, hands-on way, through self-led discovery and play.

As part of your pre-booked visit, pupils will also have the opportunity to develop their investigative skills with your choice of interactive workshop or show.  You can pre-select your shows and workshops from a wide range of topics, allowing you to tailor your visit to explore different areas of the curriculum. All of our shows and workshops are curriculum linked and there are topic-specific teacher guides and follow up activities available for download. For a full list of workshops see our Education Programme.

Most of the workshops in our Education Programme are also available on outreach for schools and community groups. Please contact the Education Team on 01224 640340 for more information or to get a quote for outreach.
