Scottish Football Museum
Hampden Park, Glasgow, is home to the Scottish Football Museum.
Exhibits date back to the world's very first international game - a 0-0 draw between Scotland and England in 1872.
Other artefacts include the world's oldest national trophy, the Scottish FA Challenge Cup.
The Scottish Football Hall of Fame is housed within the museum and among the players and managers to be inducted are Jock Stein, Bill Shankly, Denis Law and Billy Bremner.
Exhibitions at the Scottish Football Museum
Alongside the permanent exhibits the Scottish Football Museum runs an exciting programme of special exhibitions.
These themed exhibitions are inspired by the museum’s collections but often include objects from all over Scotland and beyond, offering unique chances to see some incredible items. The exhibitions are designed to draw attention to specific subjects, events, people or places; such as the Scottish Cup and Women’s Football, and help tell Scotland’s Footballing story.
The Clubs Gallery in association with Scottish Power
From Celtic to Cowdenbeath and from Albion Rovers to Aberdeen, the Club's Gallery, within the Scottish Football Museum, provides a dedicated place for all 42 senior football clubs registered with the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League.
A shirt from each club is proudly displayed within the exhibition space accompanied with a brief history including notable milestones. Record crowds, record victories and notable trophy successes from years gone by will provide a touch of nostalgia to the supporters of each club.
The Stadium Tour is a must for visitors to the Museum
On the stadium tour you will experience Hampden Park like the players do on a match day - visit the underground roadway, team changing rooms, and get the chance to strike a ball in the Hampden Hotshots gallery and have the speed of your shot electronically measured! Walk down the tunnel, hear the famous "Hampden Roar" and then follow the footsteps of legends by climbing the stairs to the cup presentation area.
Learning at the Scottish Football Museum
With over 14 galleries and 2500 objects the Scottish Football Museum is an engaging and inspiring learning experience.
Football is an important part of Scotland’s heritage, our way of life and sense of identity. The Scottish Football Museum collects preserves and interprets this heritage. Our galleries use objects, film, sound and interactive activites to explain the history and impact of football in Scotland.
Working with education professionals the museum has developed a series of teachers’ notes and worksheets to aid teacher-led interaction with the museum’s collection. These can be made available for school visits.
