Transport Museum Birmingham

Extensive collections of buses, and battery electric vehicles. Cafe/Shop/Picnic area. Kids Kabin activities. On event days (bank holidays etc) there are classic bus rides and a miniature steam railway.

The museum is home to over 90 buses. Midland Red, WMPTE blue and cream and the corporation fleets from Birmingham, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton are all represented, plus independent operators such as Harper Brothers, Soudley Valley and Blue Bus of Willington.

We are also home to the largest collection of battery electric road vehicles, including over 30 electric milk floats and bread vans from operators such as the Co-op, Midland Counties and Birmingham and Handsworth Dairies.

We have Three Large Display Halls, Over 90 Buses to see, Electric Milk Floats and Bread Vans, Interpretative Displays, Video Film ,'Kids Kabin' Activity Area, Cafe and Shop and Picnic Area plus Free Parking
During Augustwe run Circular tour on a vintage bus at 2.30pm every Weekend and Wednesday.

Additionally, on our event days you can enjoy: Buses running all day for you to ride on, Visiting buses, Sales stands, Ride-on miniature steam railway.

Educational Visits (April to October)

The museum has excellent educational facilities for school visits. We can work with you to tailor your visit to your exact requirements.

We are open for pre-booked visits on any weekday between April and October and we have experienced educational guides, all CRB checked, to help you make the most of your school visit.

Ideally suited for these Key Stage 1 and 2 National Curriculum themes

  • Geography (Year 2) - Unit 4: "Going to the seaside"
  • History (Year 1/2) - Unit 3: "What were seaside holidays like in the past?"
  • History (Year 3/4) - Unit 9: "What was it like for children in the Second World War?"
  • History (Year 3/4) - Unit 18: "What was it like to live here in the past?"
  • History (Year 5/6) - Unit 13: "How has life in Britain changed since 1948?"

Also suitable for transport studies and pre-school visits

STANDARD VISIT

Normally £60 for up to 50 children, then £1 per head above 50. Teachers and other adults looking after the children are free.

This includes:

  • Meet and greet for your party
  • Introductory video presentation
  • Experienced Museum guides
  • Role play and activities as per your requirements
  • Full access to The Power Hall exhibition and vehicle displays
  • (Other halls may be open by prior arrangement)
  • Picnic area and cafe (soft drinks/crisps/biscuits only)
  • Museum gift shop

All visits can be tailored to meet the needs of your party and the age range concerned.

OPTIONAL MINIATURE TRAIN RIDE

For an additional charge of £50 the children and their carers can enjoy rides behind a miniature steam locomotive.

OPTIONAL VINTAGE BUS RIDE

For an additional charge of £40 per trip, a ride of about 20 minutes round the lanes near the Museum in an classic bus is a fun evocation of the past and brings the exhibits to life. Please note that our buses are not fitted with seat belts.

Shorter or longer rides can be provided, please state your requirements and we will be happy to quote.

OPTIONAL COLLECT, DELIVER AND RETURN BY VINTAGE BUS

As a licensed bus operator we are able to offer this facility within a limited distance from the museum. For schools within a 10 mile radius, the charge is £150. Other distances are subject to a separate quotation, please ask for details.
