The Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum hosts the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition of Saxon gold, while the Back to Backs are houses from another preserved in the centre of the city. As befits the heart of the Industrial Revolution, museums with a focus on industry and science include ThinkTank at Millennium Point, the National Motorcycle Museum, Cadbury World, the home of chocolate, and the Forge Mill Needle museum in Redditch.

Castle Bromwich Gardens

Blakesley Hall

The timber-framed house of Blakesley Hall was built in 1590 by Richard Smalbroke, a member of one of Birmingham’s leading merchant families. More than 400 years later, beautiful Blakesley is still a haven; secluded from the avenues of modern houses that lie beyond its gates. Admission charges apply to the Hall only.

The Manor House Museum

Murder, grave robbing and insanity are all part of the story of this fascinating and unique building - the Manor House has seen it all.

Built by Richard de Marnham in the 1270s, The Manor House is now probably one of the most important surviving medieval timber framed buildings in the Midlands and the most recent building to become part of Sandwell Museum Service.

Haden Hill House

Haden Hill House Museum in Cradley Heath, Rowley Regis is a Victorian gentleman's residence furnished in period style, surrounded by 55 acres of award winning parkland.

Oak House

Oak House in West Bromwich is a delightful half timbered yeoman farmer's house built round about 1630 or earlier.

The Oak House Museum boasts some fine panelling and is furnished with 17th century furniture. The house is set in its own grounds with a children's playground on site which is available to visitors during the opening hours of the museum.

Bishop Asbury Cottage

An 18th century cottage which was the boyhood home of Francis Asbury, the first American Methodist Bishop. Asbury is virtually unknown in Britain but has his own statue on the Capitol in Washington. He is considered important in the founding of an independent American nation.

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) first opened in 1885.  It is housed in a Grade II* listed city centre landmark building. There are over 40 galleries to explore that display art, applied art, social history, archaeology and ethnography:

Barber Institute of Fine Arts

The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is housed in one of Birmingham’s finest Art Deco buildings, purpose built and opened by Queen Mary in 1939.

Baddesley Clinton

For curious children, a medieval moated century manor house with a 19th century Catholic chapel, gardens, lakeside walk and nature trail. Tire them out first and there's enough for a couple of hours.

This atmospheric house dates from the 15th century and was the home of the Ferrers family for 500 years.

Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings

Home of the national historic buildings collection

Avoncroft Museum is home to over 30 different buildings and structures which have been rescued and re-built in rural Worcestershire. The Museum is spread over 19 acres and includes a wildflower meadow, period gardens, a traditional cider and perry orchard as well as the collection of historic buildings.

Aston Hall

Aston Hall and Park are hugely popular with family audiences and have a full programme of events, activities and trails throughout the season.

Admission charges apply to the Hall only. Gardens, grounds and visitor facilities are free to all vistors. There is free admission to the entire site on the first Sunday in every month during the open season.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
