Wembury Marine Centre
Wembury Marine Centre
Wembury in South Devon is a wildlife magnet. Its rocky cliffs are home to nesting sea birds, while a rocky shore, slate reefs and massive wave-cut platforms provide one of the UK's best spots for marine life.
Wembury and the surrounding coastline form a Marine Conservation Area (MCA) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). These go some way to shielding it from the human pressures.
Wembury Marine Centre is the ideal place to learn about the surrounding area and its wildlife through interactive displays, live aquaria and regular rockpool rambles and other marine themed events. The Centre also explains the part you can play in keeping Wembury special.
Education
Wembury is a great place to learn! For more information about visits and resources, see below;
Wembury Marine Centre offers a range of educational activities to school groups, mostly at primary school level, but we also work with secondary school groups and university students.
We offer the following services:
Guided rockpooling - available to groups of any age, dates are limited by the tide and we book up very quickly for the summer term, so it is worthwhile booking well in advance. £2.50/pupil.
Classroom talks - we offer a classroom talk at your school about Wembury beach and the rockpool creatures as part of our package to schools visiting us for the guided rockpool service. We can also deliver this talk as a stand alone activity at £50. We can tailor our classroom sessions to fit in with your needs.
We also offer other activities at the beach such as; beach cleans, seashore arts and crafts, coastal walks, birdwatching and stream dipping. Please contact us to discuss details further and for prices.
