Life in Plymouth - dubbed Britain's Ocean City - revolves around the water with various watersport clubs there is plenty of fun to be had. There is a local theatre, aquarium and lighthouse for you to visit. There are countless outdoor activities to undertake either up on Dartmoor doing the Duke of Edinburgh award or on the coast or out at sea. Visit the historic site on the Hoe where Sir Francis Drake spied the Armada whilst playing bowls, learn about Victorian Incarceration at the Dartmoor Prison museum or spend some time studying the animals at Dartmoor Zoo, star of the book and feature film We Bought A Zoo.

You can also visit the beautiful village of  Boscastle and its Museum of Witchcraft, splendour at King Arthur's mystical clifftop Tintagel Castle, or wonder at the space age bubbles of the Eden Project, whilst learning more about its environmental importance. You can even ride a zip wire over the site these days!

Wembury

A spectacular stretch of coastline boasting dramatic cliffs

A great beach, and more: some of the best rock pools in the country, good surfing, masses of wildlife and views of the distinctive island - the Great Mewstone. Wembury is a great starting point for lovely inland and coastal walks to Wembury Woods and the Yealm Estuary, and around Wembury Point. Finish your trip with a slice of Gemma and Jennifer's home-made cake in the Old Mill Café.

Woodside Animal Welfare Trust

The Woodside Animal Welfare Trust is an animal rehoming charity based on the outskirts of Plymouth in Devon. The foundation of Woodside's broad field of work was begun in 1974 by Carole Bowles. Her significant contribution to animal welfare was finally recognised in 2000 when she was made an MBE by Her Majesty, The Queen.

Elliott's Grocery Store

A grocery store from the last century presenting the visitor with a time capsule of days gone by when personal service and home deliveries were the order of the day.

The museum is owned and managed by the Tamar Protection Society - an environmental group which manages an additional museum of Tudor Elizabethan life and gardening at Mary Newman's Cottage.

Wadebridge and District Museum

Our Museum opened on 28th September 2013, part of the new Trebur House development at the corner of Cross Street and Chapel Lane in Wadebridge.

We have a large collection of photographs of Wadebridge and district and are gathering additional artefacts for our collection, including a number of items actually manufactured in Wadebridge.

Stuart House

Stuart House is a late medieval town house restored by the Stuart House Trust as an arts and heritage centre.

The garden to the rear of the House has been laid out as a 17th century Gentleman'€™s Garden.

The House is used for arts and crafts exhibitions and sales, refreshments, lectures, music recitals and heritage exhibitions.

Saltash Heritage

Saltash Heritage was formed in 1986 by the late Cornelius 'Corny' Hearl and a group of like minded local people who wanted to see the formation of a permanent museum for Saltash, and aims to collect, promote and research local history in Saltash and surrounding parishes and to maintain a museum in Saltash. 

Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing

A small Museum located right on the harbourside of the beautiful fishing village of Polperro. The Museum contains a fascinating insight into the history of fishing and smuggling from the late 18th Century to date. It houses a remarkable photographic record dating from around 1860.

Padstow Museum

The museum is an independently run charity, we receive no government subsidies and are completely dependent on any donations at the door, and from our supporters.

We have accreditation status under Arts Council England

Liskeard and District Museum

The Caradon mining area is a magnet for industrial heritage enthusiasts. The remains of engine houses on the south eastern edge of Bodmin Moor tell of 19th century mines producing copper, tin and other minerals. The mines circle the dramatic Cheesewring quarry which eats into the dark grey granite of Stowes Hill.

Mary Newman's Cottage

Furniture, clothing, games and utensils from the Tudor period

This Grade 11 listed cottage is managed by the Tamar Protection Society and is the oldest building in Saltash, dating from around 1480. The cottage is furnished with period furniture which is on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum and private collections which, along with utensils on display give the interior a truly atmospheric feel.

Mevagissey Museum

Located on the left-hand side of Mevagissey's fabulous inner fishing harbour the Mevagissey Museum is the area's top attraction and is free for all. 

The Museum houses a number of collections of local interest and is its self housed in a old building dating back to 1745 when it was used for the construction and repair of smuggling vessels. 

Lostwithiel Museum

Lostwithiel was founded in the twelfth century by the Norman lords who lived in Restormel Castle. The town prospered as the centre for the administration, testing and export of tin. 

Lostwithiel grew in importance becoming the county town of Cornwall and home to the county's most significant port. 

Fowey Museum

A cabinet of curiosities

Fowey museum may be a small one room affair, housed in one of the oldest buildings in the town dating back to the 15th century, but it is packed to the ceiling with interesting artifacts illustrating some of the rich and varied history of this harbour town and its inhabitants.

Some of the displays are changed every year so that we can commemorate local events.

Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum

This is not your usual type of museum and it certainly isn’t a large grey building with all the exhibits neatly arranged on shelf after shelf in glass cabinets - ask any of our visitors!

Cornwall's Regimental Museum

A great day out for the whole family whatever the weather

History of the County Regiment from 1702 to present date including a fine display of medals, uniforms and weapons plus a superb research facility manned by willing volunteers.

Housed in one of only two existing Keeps, a landmark, Grade II building in the Town of Bodmin, constructed at the time of the Napoleonic threats.

Callington Heritage Centre

The Heritage Centre is housed in an old chapel within the Town Cemetery. This building dates from the latter half of the 19c but has recently been refurbished.

Bodmin Town Museum

Bodmin Town Museum is situated on the lower ground floor of The Public Rooms which are on the site of Bodmin's Franciscan Friary. 

The Museum houses a rich heritage of artifacts and collections that tell the story of Bodmin from the earliest times. Displays of material relating to social life, trade and transport, rocks and minerals, the World Wars, Cornish kitchen, Law and Order.

South West Lakes Trust is the region's largest combined environmental and recreational charity. Its 50 inland water sites, spread across Devon, Cornwall and West Somerset, attract in the region of 2m visits annually. It is listed as being in the top 3,000 of the country's 150,000 charities.

Cornwall Outdoors is managed by Cornwall Learning which is part of Cornwall Council. Within Cornwall the unit operates seven residential centres and raises achievement and aspiration through adventure and outdoor learning.

Our extreme sports programme includes a huge range of exciting activities for children between the ages of 8 and 16. 

We run a full day starting from 9.30am - 4.30pm and we also offer free transport to the activity with minibus collection from several of our leisure centres. 

Adventure Fit Southwest

We offer relaxing breaks or fun filled adventure weekends for families, educational outdoor activities for schools and groups and outdoor pursuits training courses for adults. Due to the location and size of our centre we are able to offer the majority of the activities on site.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
