Oswestry Tourist Attraction Offers Free Trips for Primary Schools

The British Ironwork Centre in Aston, Oswestry is offering free trips to primary schools as part of the School Partnership Programme, which aims to encourage as many regional and national schools as possible to visit the site.

Visitors will receive full access to the sculpture park, showroom and museum and get the chance to see the Ironwork Centre's resident artists at work.

Visitors will also find out more about the centre's most recent social campaign -Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife, which led to the creation of the nationally renowned monument, Knife Angel, which is currently on tour around the UK.

A spokesman for the the British Ironwork Centre said: "Throughout every visit, children will have the opportunity to explore our site, discover all the fantastic sculptures that we have on display, and learn a little something about the world around them. The activities here at our centre have been specially designed to encourage children to access and enjoy all that our grounds and facilities has to offer. We aim to provide activities that will educate and provide enjoyment for children from all backgrounds, genders, abilities, and ages, and there is certainly no shortage of things to do here!"

The free school visits are suitable for primary schools only, but small secondary school and college trips are welcome, although these do require a high teacher to student ratio.

While trips and outings are free, donations to Hope House Children’s Hospice are gratefully received.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
