Year 1 students at Barrow Island Primary School in Barrow-In-Furness, are raising funds to adapt their school’s minibus so that their classmate, Bobby Shaw can join them on field trips. Bobby has cerebral palsy which means he has to use a wheelchair.
The modification will cost approximately £4,000 and the entire school has thrown themselves into fund raising, including cake sales and raffles and has so far raised £2,200.
Six-year-old Benjamin Kyle, found a novel way to raise some money - Mum Kelly Heddles said: "On the way to school one day he said 'mum I need a haircut, if you put it on your Facebook and raise £50 I'll shave all my hair off'."
Benjamin’s trip to the barbers has single-handedly raised £700.
Headteacher Janet Dixon has been bowled over by the way her pupils have rallied around to help their classmate.
"We try to get our pupils out on trips as much as possible to enhance their life experiences," she said.
"I'm dead proud of them; Barrow is such a special place."
