We have previously praised the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)’s Discovering Britain walks; a series of self-guided free walks that help tell the stories behind Britain’s landscapes.
Our first article covered ‘The Crystal Canal’ self-guided walk in Stourbridge, as well as their guided ‘Tyranny and Treason’ walk in London on 15th November. Sticking with the capital, ‘The Strand Walk’ is a self-guided walk exploring how running the British Empire between the 16th and 20th centuries has shaped our country in the long term and how the legacy of the empire remains. Starting at Temple Underground, the walk visits world famous landmarks showing how features of British life have international stories behind them, be this tea, tobacco, language or the law.
For any schools based in the city, this walk is a fantastic opportunity to get students learning outside the classroom for a few hours. Alternatively, those of you planning a school trip to London may wish to include this in your itinerary for the day. For ideas on other London trip ideas, see our dedicated page, or simply search ‘London’ in our ‘Find a Venue’ search box.
Remember to keep safe and read our guide to Walking with Your Class in a City Environment.
To help your learning outside the classroom run smoothly, Handsam can provide an online Trip Planning System to reduce and simplify the admin and communication involved in the trip planning process.
