The house currently at Plas Penmynydd, the home of the Tudors on Anglesey, was built in 1576, after the Tudor dynasty had come to prominence through choosing to be first loyal to Edward I during his conquest of Wales and the to rebel Owen Glendower. One of the Tudors, Owain, became a courtier to King Henry V and after the king's early death became a consort of the dowager Queen, Katherine de Valois, fathering three illegitimate children with the Queen which, later that century, would give his grandson a tenuous but important claim to the English throne.

These high chalk cliffs look out onto the English Channel, giving far-reaching views towards the French coast.

The best way to see the cliffs is to take a walk along the coastal path towards South Foreland Lighthouse. You’ll get a great view of the cliffs and also see the chalk grassland that’s home to so many unusual plants and insects like the chalkhill blue butterfly and the pyramidal orchid.
