Calling All Educators Interested in the Future of our Planet!

International environmental charity Earthwatch is looking for teachers to join their immersive Teach Earth weekend experiences. Teach Earth is an inspirational experience that provides teachers with tools to use environmental education for outstanding lessons both inside and outside the classroom.

The weekend away is open to both primary and secondary school educators of all subjects and takes place in ancient woodland in Oxfordshire. The experience aims to create a network of educators inspiring one another to engage students in how we can achieve a more sustainable planet, with a focus on science, climate change and the environment, followed by on-going support and reunions.

Teach Earth weekends support teachers in creative planning and cross-curriculum approaches to environmental education and immerses them into a variety of science projects on the weekend experience, such as Earthwatch’s Earthwatch Watch, FreshWater Watch and Teabag Index. It also educates teachers on the United National 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) and how they can engage students with these. The SDGs, which came into force on 1st January 2016, are a framework aiming to end poverty, protect our planet and ensure future prosperity by 2030. During the weekend, teachers will have the opportunity to collect scientific data that will make a direct contribution to achieving the SDGs.

If you are passionate about teaching and interested in conservation and environmental sustainability and how this can be applied to learning, then this is for you. The training weekends cost just £25 per teacher which includes all training, materials, food and accommodation. Additionally, there are a number of free places available for those working in disadvantaged communities.

Additionally, Earthwatch can come directly to your school for a free one day hands on science Discover Earth programme, in which they will work with teachers or leading Key Stage 2 students.

You can register your interest in a Teach Earth weekend experience or a one day visit to your school on Earthwatch’s website.
