Perched on its vantage point high on the South Downs ridge, Uppark commands views as far south as the English Channel. Outside, the intimate gardens are being gradually restored to their original 18th-century design, with plenty of space in the adjacent meadow to play and relax with a picnic. The nearby woodland is great for exploring and den-building.

Physical Education teachers spend their working lives taking groups to play matches, participate in athletic competitions, and on outdoor walking and climbing activities. There would appear to be little time for any extra visits, and yet P.E. staff find time to take groups to a variety of venues.
Visits by P.E. and Games teachers are, of course, mainly to sporting venues – either as participants or spectators. Some venues are iconic, such as Wembley, Cardiff Arms Park, Lord's, Twickenham or Old Trafford, but the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum has its adherents, as do the British Golf Museum at St Andrews, the National Football Museum in Manchester and the Olympic Park, London.
But for something a bit different some schools visit the National Clay Shooting Centre at Woking, the National Motorcycle Museum just off junction 6 of the M42, the National Badminton Museum in Milton Keynes, or the Archery Museum at the University of Manchester, or the various sailing centres around our coast.

Gorge of the River Allen with ornamental and ancient woodland
Take a walk on the wild side at Allen Banks and Staward Gorge, one of the largest areas of ancient woodland in Northumberland.
This extensive area of gorge and river scenery, including the 41-hectare (101-acre) Stawardpeel Site of Special Scientific Interest, has miles of waymarked walks through ornamental and ancient woods.

Birling Gap and Crowlink, near Eastbourne in East Sussex, are part of the world famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, one of the longest stretches of undeveloped coastline on the south coast.

Popular with divers and coasteerers, Abereiddi's Blue Lagoon is a spectacular coastal feature. The lagoon is actually a flooded former slate quarry and you can still see atmospheric ruined quarry buildings on the clifftops.

The National Nature Reserve status of Bradfield Woods recognises the fact that this is one of the most important woods in the country. Bradfield Woods is steeped in history and brimming with wildlife. The award-winning carbon-positive building includes a classroom, covered veranda and toilets.
Lackford Lakes is a wildlife haven created from gravel pits. Designated SSSI, with wetland, woodland, scrub, sandy heath and 11 lakes, birds and other wildlife can be seen close-up all year round. Located at the heart of the reserve, the centre has a classroom overlooking the reedbed, viewing gallery, picnic area and toilets.
As well as a range of native trees and wildlife (including budgies and guinea pigs!) there's an aviary and a play area for children. The island also provides wonderful views upstream of the weir and the wooded slopes of the Cliveden Estate.
