Mathematics

Mathematics, or numeracy, is a subject which children often either grasp quickly or else find rather difficult to get their head around.

One key step in teaching numeracy is to help the students develop an understanding about why they need to learn about Mathematics - using real-world examples - and how being able to work with numbers can help them so much in their every day lives. At an older age focus can be placed on the necessity for good Maths qualifications, and even how they can help you access some really 'cool' professions like architecture, computer engineering or space science. Once you have a class of enthusiastic pupils who actually understand how Maths relates to the world in which they live and want to learn how to do sums, handing out those worksheets full of fractions and decimal places will seem less of a struggle.

As with many other subjects, it is easier to inspire kids by taking them on a trip and allowing them to see numbers in action in the real world. This will hugely benefit their understanding of the subject and why it is so important that they learn what you are trying to teach them. Venues for this Curriculum

Children’s author Michael Morpugo and his wife Clare founded Farms for City Children in 1976. The charity now owns three farms in the west country of which Wick Court is one. We welcome around 3,200 children and 400 teachers a year.

Wick Court is a small-scale traditional livestock farm, with sheep, beef cattle, pigs and poultry.

The Discovery Barn

As one of the best family attractions in Essex there’s so much to do here at Barleylands Farm Park, Billericay whatever the weather. We’ve farmyard friends with daily animal activities including lamb bottle feeding, a huge Reptile House and awesome birds of prey. Both motorsports and aviation are celebrated at the Brooklands Museum.

20 miles south west of central London, with its famous banked corners Brooklands was at the centre of British motorsport before the Second World War. It was the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit.

It’s a fun team building activity. You will be locked in a room for one hour with puzzles and tasks to work out and solve to see if you can escape out of the room. These tasks range from mental to physical.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust is the leading environmental charity in Cheshire offering high quality environmental education field trips and sessions to schools or community groups. We provide fantastic opportunities for outdoor learning at a range of locations across the county all complimenting the National Curriculum.

We offer a range of outdoor activities in addition to our high ropes course. These include Tree Climbing , Archery, Den Building and Geocaching to name but a few.

We  tell the story of tin and copper mining in Cornwall with daily demonstrations of a working mill

The oldest complete mine site in Cornwall, King Edward Mine Museum in Troon, near Camborne specialises in the history of Cornish mining, telling the remarkable story of how the mine has survived for 100 years. In the tin processing mill machinery can be seen in action just as it would have been in the early 1900s.

Founded in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, the Leach Pottery is probably the most famous and certainly the most influential studio pottery in the world. Today the Leach Pottery is a living tribute to Bernard Leach and his legacy. Visitors to the Pottery can see the original workshops and kiln shed, including the three-chambered Japanese climbing kiln, built in 1923.

The timber-framed house of Blakesley Hall was built in 1590 by Richard Smalbroke, a member of one of Birmingham’s leading merchant families. More than 400 years later, beautiful Blakesley is still a haven; secluded from the avenues of modern houses that lie beyond its gates. Admission charges apply to the Hall only.

School Visits

With no sailing experience necessary join us for a day sail, longer voyages to Lundy Island or an accredited sailing course.

Schools

Aston Hall and Park are hugely popular with family audiences and have a full programme of events, activities and trails throughout the season.

Admission charges apply to the Hall only. Gardens, grounds and visitor facilities are free to all vistors. There is free admission to the entire site on the first Sunday in every month during the open season.

Amersham Museum is an award winning museum located in a 15th century building in the heart of old Amersham. It is a hidden gem with a collection spanning 2,000 years of local history.

Recent research has proven the benefits of circus skills in Educational Programmes. It has been successfully used as an educational tool, and has been used therapeutically with children at risk. We can visit your school to deliver exciting and innovative circus skills workshops which  relate directly to the curriculum.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
