Computing (ICT)
Computing (ICT)
Computers run the modern world, well at least it seems so. Most curriculum subjects are taught using computers in some fashion in most schools at some point these days. So the use of the devices themselves is a day-to-day activity for young people.
So, the additional benefit to be derived from trips may revolve around the historical context surrounding the birth of computers or how they will influence our future. This may be specifically to do with computing as a subject in itself, or again in the context of other subjects such as Mathematics, Technology, Science, Media and PSHE.
Of course careers can now be made either in computing itself - through the design of software or development hardware in the Tech sector, or through the use of them in offices, environments such as television or journalism, or understanding how applications can influence both social attitudes and moods, and also purchasing decisions. Trips can be designed to look into aspects of any of these uses of computers in the modern world with visits to local businesses, with supermarkets in particular offering great experiences and structured programmes for students. The opportunity for detailed follow-up in lessons is considerable.
