George Clist, a student at Uffcolme School in Devon was awarded the equipment after IBT – a Prestwick based travel company specializing in school and educational travel - saw his work on YouTube.

School Secretary Jailed for Stealing £25,000 from School Accounts to Fund a £500-a-week Cocaine Habit

A secretary at Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen Primary School in Neath Port Talbot, South Wales was jailed for eight months at Swansea Crown Court at a hearing last month, after stealing £25,000 from school funds. In January 2018, accounting 'irregularities' were discovered and Nia O’Sullivan (39) was suspended.

O'Sullivan was responsible for paying bills for school trips as well as collecting money from ticket sales from school concerts and purchasing stationery and equipment.

No Manslaughter Charges for Drayton Manor over Young Girl’s Death

11 year old Evha Jannath sustained chest injuries and tragically drowned after she fell from the Splash Canyon rapids ride at Drayton Manor Park in May 2017. 

In a statement, Staffordshire Police said the park will not face corporate manslaughter or gross negligence charges and have handed the case to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which could prosecute if the park is found to have breached safety and health regulations. Evidence has also been handed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for review. 

An inquest is expected to begin in November this year. 

National LOtC Conference 2019: Beyond the Classroom

The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) and the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel (OEAP) have joined together to host a national conference, dedicated to learning outside the classroom. The day will involve presentations from keynote speakers, case studies and hands-on practical workshops. Speakers include Mike Hamilton OBE, the founder of Commando Joe’s. 

Government to Fund 2,900 School Exchanges for Disadvantaged Pupils

Education Secretary Damian Hinds has announced that secondary schools in England will be able to apply for money to take poorer pupils overseas on school exchanges.

The £2.5 million government scheme enables pupils aged 11 and over to “experience other cultures and go to places they wouldn’t normally visit”.

Mr Hinds said: “As Britain leaves the EU, it’s more important than ever to show how much we value international opportunities”.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
