What are they and what do they involve?
Environment centres are venues designed to raise awareness of, emphasise the importance of and increase interaction with all aspects of the environment. The specifics can vary greatly and will often depend upon the location of the venue, but can include activities such as nature trails that allow you to experience the environment up close.
What are the benefits?
Having a level of understanding for the environment is important for everybody; it encourages learning outside of the classroom and taking responsible action to better the environment.
What students is it suitable for?
Pupils of all ages will like environment centres; they’re easy to enjoy and are reasonably simple venues that can provide a hugely rewarding education experience.
Costs?
Environment centres will usually have an admission fee, but these will generally fall under £10 for smaller venues, whereas large establishments such as the Eden Project can have higher costs.
Safety Implications?
As with any activities outdoors, you should make sure your student groups are properly prepared for any eventualities and are suitably supervised!

The Seagull Recycling Centre does what it says on the tin -
we recycle domestic waste, run a popular schools education programme called "The Waste Wizard" and run a "re-use" scheme where clean, safe and unused items from industry are recycled into craft products and other resources.
Offering a wide variety of bespoke programmes for Early Years/KS1 through to KS4. Groups can be taken on Tuesdays. Whether dipping for creatures that live in our river or kneeling to look at flowers in the meadows - there is an abundance of wonderful new experiences to behold.

A visit to our stunning and innovative visitor centre built on a former landfill site will be an exciting and educational trip for all ages. With superb views from our roof top over Mucking Flats and the Thames Estuary, our education programmes will inspire your students.

We started off in 2005 with an overgrown field with lots of brambles, black thorn and docks… Back then we had a vision that we could support some of the most disadvantaged people through transforming the site into a vibrant and innovative demonstration of sustainable land use.
Our education centre in Bolton sits on the edge of the magnificent wildlife haven, Seven Acres Local Nature Reserve. The reserve contains a variety of habitats including woodlands, grasslands, ponds and Bradshaw Brook — a fantastic urban river. Facilities include two purpose built classrooms, the larger of which can accommodate groups of up to 60 children.
Welcome to our beautiful 19-acre nature reserve. With woodland, meadow, ponds and a wildlife garden, Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre is a haven for wildlife and an exhilarating gren space for your pupils to explore. Our education programmes give children opportunities to experience nature for themselves through hands-on activities.
Arrow Valley Visitor Centre, recently refurbished to a very high standard, offers a conference facility and a large comfortable mezzanine area suitable for parties, meals, receptions and other informal functions.

The Ecos Millennium Environmental Centre is a unique project in Ireland that opened on 7th August 2000. Ecos is set in a 150-acre Country Park, which has been created from previously disused land that is the River Braid flood plain.
The Waters Edge Country Park, provides a relaxing and stimulating day out for people of all ages. Situated to the north of Barton-Upon-Humber, on the edge of the Humber estuary, Waters Edge contains a wide diversity of plant and wildlife. Established in 1996 on a site which had previously been a series of clay quarries, Waters Edge has breathed new life into what was once a derelict area.
A visit to the Secret Hills exhibition will reveal some of the stories hidden in the landscape. You can meet their mammoth and pretend what life was like in the Iron Age.
The exhibition's centre-piece, a panoramic film shot from a hot air balloon, lets you look at this stunning area from a unique perspective.
Located at Carsington Water Visitor Centre, the Wildlife Discovery Room and Wildlife Explorer's Outdoor Classroom provide plenty of opportunities for learning.
The Natural World Centre is a state of the art sustainably designed visitor centre within the beautiful 375 acre Whisby Nature Park, just to the south of Lincoln.
The Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, is the geology museum of the University of Cambridge. It is part of the Department of Earth Sciences and is located on the University's Downing Site in Downing Street, central Cambridge.

Based in an eco-refurbished Victorian former terraced house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire Energy Centre (SYEC) demonstrates the practicalities of Green refurbishment and renewable energy and offers advice, training, education, consultancy and project management to a wide variety of clients, as well as providing Sheffield's first Green Building Service.
Welcome to our newly renovated education centre in a historic stable block, with purpose-built dipping pond, tree trail, arable fields and recently-planted orchard. Children can explore our 300 year-old farm and our varied woodland.
