Leisure Centres

What are they and what do they involve?

Leisure centres are venues in which you can practice sport, but they are generally casual in their practices and don’t require visitors to have much prior knowledge of the sport or equipment. Leisure centres often have swimming pools, gyms and halls for sports such as basketball, and often have organised activity sessions that you can attend.

What are the benefits?

Participating in more casual sport can be great for those less confidence in their physical abilities, as there is a lot less pressure to perform well in more relaxed surroundings. Leisure centres are great for this, especially swimming; students can improve confidence and fitness in a calm environment!

What students is it suitable for?

Younger students will need careful supervision when practicing sport, especially if they are unfamiliar with it, but leisure centres are generally suitable for pupils of all ages and interests!

Costs?

The costs of visiting leisure centres are usually reasonably low, with admission into a swimming pool often under £5 per person!

Safety Implications?

Leisure centre activities do have some hazards and will need to be supervised by someone with the correct qualifications (such as swimming) – be aware that these staff should be on duty!
