Sports Clubs

What are they and what do they involve?

Sports Clubs are venues dedicated towards exercise and physical activity; they can vary from official team grounds to being a public place to go to practice a sport using specialist equipment. The hugely diverse nature of sport means the grounds in which they are carried out differ just as much, so there will always be a great selection of sports clubs to visit and get engaged in the physical activities available there!

What are the benefits?

Going to a sports club and joining in with the activities has numerous benefits - team sports will improve the bonds between team mates and help students learn how to best utilize the strengths of a group as well as individual talents, while single player sports can really heighten personal confidence and physical awareness (hand-eye coordination, situation judgment) to name just a few!

What students is it suitable for?

The varying nature of sport means that there are sports clubs out there suitable for everybody, regardless of age, disability or interests! Not every type of exercise will suit every student, but with careful consideration everyone can find a sport they enjoy participating in - make sure to consider the specific needs of each student!

Costs?

Access to sports clubs will usually come with a fee and will depend on the nature of the activity; for example, if you need to hire equipment or a tutor/safety officer needs to present for the activity to commence (such as canoeing/kayaking) the costs will be higher than visiting a sports club that requires no significant tutoring (such as ten pin bowling).

Safety Implications?

Some sports are more dangerous than others, so be sure to bear in mind the capabilities of your student group when visiting a sports club. Contact sports such as rugby can result in injury if the participants do not behave correctly, so it's important you are confident in your students to conduct themselves properly and that the sport in question is suitable for the age group!
