What is it?
A concert or performance is the practice of a show being presented by skilled professionals for the enjoyment of the audience. The specifics can vary greatly, but it generally covers more large scale and elaborate performances.
What does it involve?
A performance can involve pretty much anything, but the term "concert" usually refers to a specifically musical production. Although some include audience participation, most performances involve just sitting back and appreciating the show that has been put on to entertain you; from local theatre to a concert from a chart topping band, it's there for your enjoyment!
Why do it and what are the benefits?
Watching someone else perform can often motivate the viewer into their own activities, whether it's returning to a previously learnt skill or pursuing something new. Students can benefit greatly from seeing a talent performed at an accomplished level; it gives them a realistic and attainable target of what they could achieve instead of a vague idea of success in the distant future.
What equipment do we need?
You shouldn't need to provide any equipment for attending a performance other than the entry fee/ticket.
Who is it suitable for?
You can find a concert/performance that is suitable for anybody!
Costs?
The costs will vary greatly depending on the venue of the performance and the fame of the performers.
Issues/Things to think about? (unsuitable for age groups, medical conditions etc)
Although people of any age can enjoy a performance, you must make sure it's tailored to the needs of the group; for example, those of primary school age won't enjoy Shakespeare as much as older students might!
How do we include?
Attending a concert or performance is a pretty good way to include the entirety of your student group, as it normally just involves sitting still and enjoying what's in front of you! Those with mental disabilities or sight/hearing difficulties are often catered for, so check with each individual venue to see what they are set up for.
Doing it abroad?
Performances and concerts are held all around the world, so there should always be something to attend wherever you travel. Foreign countries will also have varying skills and styles to what you can find in the UK, so productions abroad will be a lesson in local culture as well as enjoyable to watch!

The first Gower music tour was to Valkenburg in southern Holland, which is a resort that we still operate in today. Very quickly the music tour clients expanded and soon Gower was organising choir, band and orchestra tours in Northern France, Paris and down the German Rhine Valley.

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.
Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.
The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
