Dance

Dance

What is it?

Dancing is a form of art that involves the movement of the body, generally in response to or in time with music. It is utilised for many purposes, including exercise, emotional expression, storytelling and exercise, and can be found all over the world in a huge variety of forms.

What does it involve?

The practice of dance basically involves the movement of the body to music. The specifics can very greatly, as you can dance without music, individually or as part of a group, and to many different styles of music, but the basic form of bodily movement stays the same throughout.

Why do it and what are the benefits?

Dancing is a really great activity for developing both mental and physical attributes - it's a really fun way of exercising, and improves general physicality and balance, while helping boost confidence and creativity in other areas of life.

What equipment do we need?

The only thing you should need for dance is some appropirate clothing and music! Some disciplines such as ballet may require some more specialist attire, but beginners will generally be provided for by the tutor.

Who is it suitable for?

Dance can be suitable for all ages! Even difficult dancing can be taught to extremely young children, and it's beneficial to everyone regardless of age.

Costs?

Although dancing is free in theory, to hire a tutor will cost you some money! Every individual will have their own price list, so make sure to research costs in regards to different dances before booking.

Issues/Things to think about? (unsuitable for age groups, medical conditions etc)

Not everyone will enjoy dancing or have a natural rhythm, so make sure the activity is fun in other ways for those with less of an aptitude for it! Some students may dislike the spotlight, so learning a group dance could be a fun way of including those who are a little shy.

How do we include?

Dance is not a fixed idea, and can be interpreted however you want! People of all abilties can dance, even those who are bound to a wheelchair - you can learn to incorparate all conditions into dancing if you have desire to.

Doing it abroad?

Foreign countries will all have their own tradtional dancing styles and music which could be great fun to try out! See if there are any taster sessions you can take your students to, but make sure to do your reseach before you go!
