Watersports

What is it? 

Watersports can include a big variety of activities, all taking place in or on a body of water. Some examples are waterskiing, surfing, paddleboarding, synchronized diving/swimming and sailing; the basis of any watersport is how to best interact with the water to achieve a goal.

What does it involve?

There are a lot of different things involved in watersports as it's a very varied area! It can include aspects such as completing a course in the fastest time, scoring the highest amount of points, but the basis of all watersport comes from having a good time in the water. 

Why do it and what are the benefits?

Having a go at watersports can be a lot of fun, a great learning experience and is excellent for exercising while having a good time - also, students being taught a new skill all together will make for good bonding amongst the group. 

What equipment do we need?

You will always need to ensure that students taking part in watersports have appropriate attire - sometimes normal swimwear will be enough, but you may need more specialist equipment such as wetsuits for some sports!

Who is it suitable for?

Some watersports require a lot of skill and overall bodily strength, so certain activities may not be suitable for younger students - make sure to be aware of the needs of your group. 

Costs?

Because of the immense variety of watersports of available, the costs of taking students on trips to try them out will vary greatly! For example, access to a swimming pool with some diving boards will cost a lot less than going sailing. 

Issues/Things to think about? (unsuitable for age groups, medical conditions etc)

Young children should always be supervised around bodies of water, but each activity provider should supply trained staff - just make sure to be aware of the individual dangers of each type of watersports!

How do we include?

Inclusion of those with disabilities will entirely depend on the type of watersport - some activities such as waterskiing or surfing require a lot of independent thought and movement and may not be as suitable. Choose your pursuit carefully to cater to the specific requirements of your students. 

Doing it abroad?

Watersports are popular all over the world, but there is obviously going to be less demand for it in land-locked countries with less natural bodies of water to practice it on! Coastal regions are the most likely to have watersport activities based there, but always research your destination before setting off to see whats available.

Wyndley Leisure Centre offers a heated main pool divided into a 25m deep water area for lane swimming and diving plus a 22m shallow water area and separate shallow teaching pool.

Leisure Lagoon features include Wave Machine; 50m Twister Flume; Geysers and Water Cannons; plus Falling Rapids Ride and Fast Drop Flume!

In addition to the main pool we also offer a 7 x 12.5m teaching pool, great for beginners. The main pool has a superb spectator gallery and many large championship galas are held here.

Has a separate swimming pool and a wave machine that's switched on at regular intervals. There is an outdoor Lido pool which is worth a visit when the mercury rises.

There are beginner and improver tuition sessions available for every kind of activity, plus taster days and other options so you can try your hand at several new skills before deciding which to pursue with full gusto!

The Abbey Meadow Lido is a heated 40m outdoor pool situated in scenic surrounds on the bank of the river Thames, accessible by boat if you happen to have one, with moorings adjacent.

We are an indoor centre which provides a wide range of activities specifically suited to families - we have two swimming pools (one with flume ride and features), a large sports hall for ball games and racquet sports, and a soft play area called Jungle Junction.

Grassy slopes, the lake, historic buildings, old trees and hedges recall Abbey Fields’ past, while the new play area contributes to the modern side with a fully fenced in zone for the little ones to run wild on the equipment. 

Adjacent there is also a 25-metre heated indoor pool and outdoor pool in the summer.

Great standard swimming pool but the Tiger Pool comes complete with Octopus slide and interactive water features, waterfalls, squirty fish, water dams and tipping bucket, making it suitable for the whole family.

A spectacular coastline, combined with a lively working Cornish port, lends this area its unique character and charm.

Rowing is fun and relaxing and a great way to spend a sunny afternoon on the river, pedalos and punts also available. You can hire the boat for an hour or if you want to make a day of it, just stay on the river as long as you like, simply returning the row boat to the boathouse before sunset.

Ragley Hall was first opened in 1958 and the State Rooms were gradually restored to their former glory. The 8th Marquess made his mark on Ragley by commissioning Graham Rust to create a modern mural, The Temptation, in the South Staircase Hall which took fourteen years to complete and features several family members and pets.

Standard swimming and teaching facility also with separate diving pool equipped with 1 and 3m springboards and a 5m platform. There are more sporting opportunities besides.

Feeling adventurous? Enjoy the aquatube flume, Pirate Ship Fun Pool and four springboards (1 to 3m) with a 5m diving platform, as well as many other facilities. Creche also available.

For a long time West Wittering beach has been a favourite amongst windsurfers and kitesurfers. The unspoilt, rural bliss of the surrounding area easily earns the place its reputation as one of the best beaches in the UK. It’s amazing really that you can find such a place just over an hour’s drive from London.

The Club offers a broad range of sailing opportunities most of the year round.  Sailing takes place on the Marine Lake on weekday evenings between April and October, weekends from April to December and selected Sundays in Februay and March.

Our diving pool has one, three and five metre boards. Leisure pool has flumes, fountains and a water creek! Also has sporting opportunities such as the climbing wall.
