Physical Education

Physical Education teachers spend their working lives taking groups to play matches, participate in athletic competitions, and on outdoor walking and climbing activities. There would appear to be little time for any extra visits, and yet P.E. staff find time to take groups to a variety of venues.

Visits by P.E. and Games teachers are, of course, mainly to sporting venues – either as participants or spectators. Some venues are iconic, such as Wembley, Cardiff Arms Park, Lord's, Twickenham or Old Trafford, but the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum has its adherents, as do the British Golf Museum at St Andrews, the National Football Museum in Manchester and the Olympic Park, London.

But for something a bit different some schools visit the National Clay Shooting Centre at Woking, the National Motorcycle Museum just off junction 6 of the M42, the National Badminton Museum in Milton Keynes, or the Archery Museum at the University of Manchester, or the various sailing centres around our coast.

Venues for this Curriculum

Wakelake was the first cable tow centre to open in the West Midlands, and is mainly dedicated to the exciting activity known as wakeboarding!

This is the sport of riding on a short, wide board (similar to a surfboard), and performing manoeuvres while being towed, in this case, by a cable tow.

Prince's Trust centres currently offer the Fairbeidge programme, which is an individually tailored personal development programme combining one-to-one support and group activities.

Originally Fairbridge West Midlands, we've been supporting young people since 2000. In 2011 we became part of The Prince's Trust.

Walsall outdoor pursuits is an Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) registered centre together with Royal Yachting Association (RYA) - Registered Training Centre (RTC) with RYA sailability foundation status.

The Chase Sailing Club enjoys 90 hectares of clean water set in the beautiful surroundings of Chasewater Country Park. The clubhouse that consists of secure changing rooms with showers. A large wet room with tables and chairs where food and drinks can be purchased at weekends.

Silver Blades with its friendly atmosphere and popular location, is fun for all the family.

Silver Blades currently has a selection of skating sessions for you to choose from.

They have Public and Disco Sessions, Birthday Parties, Ice Hockey Basics courses, as well as practice time for figure skaters and Ice Hockey teams of all ages.

Schools have been coming to Stanley Head for almost 60 years and this is still our main customer group hosting between two and ten schools almost every week of the school term and during school holidays. Most schools visit us for 5 days making the most of our full-board accommodation. However, we can design a programme to suit your needs starting from three-hour sessions up to full weeks.

Our instructors have been providing adventurous outdoor activities since 1992. Offering training and technical support to the outdoor industry, the activities we offer are run under National Government Body Guidelines and certified by the relevant Organisations.

Aerial Extreme is a high ropes adventure course involving a series of challenging obstacles set at varying heights above the ground. You'll find yourself tackling fun obstacles such as rope bridges, scramble nets, zip wires, swinging logs and balance beams, plus many more!

A specialist in outdoor activities, Pro Active Adventure has been delivering high quality outdoor adventure holidays since 2000. We are recognised leaders in Outdoor Education, Activity Holidays, Adrenaline Adventure Activities and MIAS mountain bike instructor courses.

West Reservoir Water Sports Centre is a water sports and environmental education centre which is located in a picturesque corner of Stoke Newington. The centre provides the opportunity to take part in sailing and kayaking for adults and children under the watchful eye of expert instructors. The centre is operated by a charity social enterprise, Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL).

An exciting indoor karting circuit that can be enjoyed by all ability levels. Kids get to drive a specially designed kart that can have the power limited remotely until their skills and confidence have increased. For ages 8 and older.

A 15-year-old boy fell 60ft over the edge of a cliff whilst on a geography school trip, miraculously only suffering minor injuries.
