Montherwell was once the centre of Scotland’s Steel production much of this history and heritage can be explored at the local museum. If you are looking for a less serious visit you can always visit the local theme park, nature parks, country parks or indoor play centres.

History, heritage, business and technology are to be discovered at New Lanark, a remarkable factory cum village which was the heart of Scotland's cotton industry and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. meanwhile for endless beauty nature lovers can visit the Falls of Clyde or Strathclyde Country Park.

Moat Park Heritage Centre

The Moat Park Heritage Centre closed to the public in January 2014 so that the collection could be prepared for re-location to a new site on Biggar High Street as part of the new 'Museum of Biggar and Upper Clydesdale'. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

It is anticipated that the new museum will open in the summer of 2015.

Low Parks Museum

The museum is based in historic buildings that were once part of the Duke of Hamilton's estate

Low Parks Museum is housed in beautiful and historically significant buildings which were once part of the Duke of Hamilton’s estate. The 18th century Assembly Room, with its original plasterwork and musicians’ gallery, forms a striking centrepiece to the buildings.

Housed in a stunning modern building at the top of Hamilton Road, just opposite the station, Motherwell Heritage Centre features Technopolis, an award-winning interactive experience on the area’s past from the Romans to the great days of heavy industry.

Shotts Heritage Centre

The heritage centre is within the town library. Displays focus on the area’s strong 17th century covenanting heritage and the rise and fall of local heavy industries in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Falls of Clyde

The Scottish Wildlife Trust’s, Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve (part of the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve) is bursting with wildlife. Famous for its spectacular waterfalls and scenic woodland walks. In spring the woodland floor us abound with colourful wildflowers. Alive with bird song; over 100 species having made this reserve their home.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
