Kirkcaldy is the main town of the kingdom of Fife. In its surrounding beautiful countryside can be found the Scottish Deer Park, a great place for Scientists and animal lovers to learn. If your interest is under the sea then oceanographers can study at the Deep Sea Oceanarium. For an area with such beauty it isn't surprising that ecology features heavily on the list of great school trip experiences and providers such as Earthship Fife and Craigencalt Ecology Centre are popular.

The area's deep history is revealed at Falkland Palace and the uniquely preserved town of the Royal Burgh of Culross. Golf has a massive influence in the area with the 'Home of Golf' St Andrew's close by, where the British Golf Museum is to be found, a fascinating visit with over 16,000 golfing items on display.

Kirkcaldy itself is a seaside resort and you can see the delights of the town or within minutes you can be walking along the beach, visiting local woodlands or even visit the ancient Ravenscraig Castle. The Kirkcaldy museum and art gallery is worth a visit offering an insight into the history of the local area and much more.

Engineers can marvel at the site of the Forth Road Bridge and the new bridge now being constructed next to it.

Buckhaven Museum

A small local museum in a town once described as a full-flavoured fisher town. Buckhaven’s past importance in the East Coast Fisheries is reflected in the displays housed above Buckhaven Library. Free admission, open as Library. 

British Golf Museum

St Andrews, the home of golf, is also home to the British Golf Museum.

The museum has over 16,000 exhibits telling the story of golf from its origins in the Middle Ages to the present day.

Bell Pettigrew Museum, University of St Andrews

The Bell Pettigrew Museum is the University's zoology museum.  It is a rare survival of a Victorian teaching museum, and wonderfully atmospheric.

The displays, which include examples of several extinct species, are arranged to allow the evolutionary and taxonomic relationships between animals to be clearly understood.

Kellie Castle in Fife dates from as early as the 14th century and has magnificent plaster ceilings, painted panelling and fine furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer.

Ravenscraig Castle

One of the earliest artillery forts in Scotland

Thanks to its massive, 3.5m-thick frontal wall and proliferation of gun holes, Ravenscraig has generally been regarded more as an artillery fort than a castle. This view holds that it was built to help defend the Firth of Forth from an English invasion.

Situated in gently rolling hills overlooking Kinghorn Loch in Fife, Craigencalt Ecology Centre was established in 1998 to give people a direct experience of the natural environment. 

Earthship Fife

The Earthship is a demonstration eco house. It is run as a visitor centre and is open throughout the year for both drop in visitors and booked tours. 

Fordell Firs National Activity Centre

Fordell Firs is one of the three National Scout Activity Centres situated throughout Scotland, the other two are Lochgoilhead and Meggernie. The centre covers 48 acres, consisting of camping areas, woods, rocky outcrops and a few cliffs.

The sandy curve of Elie Bay encloses a wonderful expanse of sheltered water, making it the finest setting for beginners on Scotland's East Coast. Beyond the bay, the open sea offers a challenge to the more proficient participant.

Scottish Deer Centre

The Scottish Deer Centre is set in the Fife countryside and covers over 55 acres. Our collection includes 14 species of Deer from around the world, Fife's only Wolf pack, Otters and other rare Scottish species including the Wildcat. We also host Raptor World Bird of Prey centre! 

Royal Burgh of Culross

The Royal Burgh of Culross is a unique survival, a town that time has passed by. It is the most complete example in Scotland today of a Burgh of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Town House was built in 1626 and was the administrative centre of Culross with a tollbooth and witches' prison. The old buildings and cobbled streets create a fascinating time warp for visitors.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
