Dumfries and Galloway is an area where you can expect non-stop adventure at any time of year. The scenery lends itself to adventurous activities with hills, rivers, forests and coastline; you can pick almost anything to get involved in.

Scientists and those looking to study nature can visit the likes of Threave Estate, the Galloway Wildlife Reserve and the beautiful coastline at Rockcliffe. Historians may wish to visit the birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, Scottish historian, philosopher and writer, while those studying English will also flock to the home of poet Robert Burns, once a resident of the area. Adventurers can find thrills, physical challenges and adventure at the Galloway Activity Centre.

The area also offers plenty in the way of educational visits from the famous Gretna Green Blacksmiths shop to the various museums which focus on aviation, cameras, the American Navy (founded by local man John Paul Jones) and even knitting.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
