National Glass Centre

The Centre can offer opportunities to both organised groups and individuals alike. The Marine Activities Centre is licensed by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Service to deliver the activities, is a Recognised Training Centre for the Royal Yachting Association. 

The Centre now holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge and the AAIAC Adventure Mark.

Souter Lighthouse and The Leas

A marvel of its age

Opened in 1871 Souter remains an iconic beacon. Hooped in red and white and standing proud on the coastline midway between the Tyne and the Wear. Souter is a special place all year round and was the first lighthouse in the world designed and built to be powered by electricity.

Durham Coast is a wonderful place for walkers and for those who want to enjoy the scenery from the cliff top paths.

Hylton Castle

The distinctive and highly decorative gatehouse-tower of a castle built by the wealthy Sir William Hylton, shortly before 1400.

Originally containing four floors of self-contained family accommodation, its entrance front displays royal and family heraldry, including Richard II's white hart badge.

St Peter's Monastery

One of the UK's first stone-built churches, St. Peter’s, built on land given by King Ecgfrith to St. Benedict Biscop in 673 AD, is the earlier of the twin site (along with St Paul's Monastery, Jarrow.) to come to life.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
