East Anglia

East Anglia

The flat fens of East Anglia provide some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK. They also boast a rich history and can offer an insight into medieval Britain. The area features ancient towns, early castles, cathedrals and churches, and spectacular architecture as well as vast coastlines and wildlife sanctuaries (see Strumpshaw Fen in Norfolk above).

Perhaps surprisingly, Norwich, county town of Norfolk, is the only place in England to boast the official title of City of Literature, awarded in May 2012 (the other six recipients to date are Reykjavik, Krakow, Iowa City, Edinburgh, Melbourne and Dublin). This was due to the city's proactive promotion of both its literary past (and we're not just talking Alan Partridge here) and its current culture. See our page about Norwich for further details.

Other key cities include Ipswich, Peterborough and Cambridge, while the beauty and wildlife of Suffolk and the Norfolk Broads attracts thousands of school visits each year.

East Anglia is not only a cultural experience, there is also a lot of fun to be had as the area offers zoos, water parks and theme parks, as well as experiences with agriculture and farming, technology (particularly around Cambridge) and nature and geography projects around reclaimed land, the environment and wildlife.
