East Midlands

The East Midlands is a hub of technology, science and innovation. Derby and Nottingham are centres of industry, while the 's mining heritage can be explored at Snibston Museum, The Peak District Lead Mining Museum or the National Stone Centre. You can even discover all about the science of space travel at the National Space Centre (above) in Leicester.

Its landscapes include the Derbyshire Peak District moors, a long stretch of Lincolnshire North Sea coast, the clay vales of Nottinghamshire and huge forested areas. The Peak District national park covers 555 square miles and is filled with ancient ruins, beautiful views and wildlife. Creswell Crags in Nottinghamshire is the home to 12,000 year-old engravings, while the region boasts fabulous stately homes such as Chatsworth House and beautiful towns such as Buxton in Derbyshire, and of course it was the home of legendary outlaw Robin Hood and is now the final resting place of King Richard III!

Sport also plays a huge role in the area with various major football clubs, an international rowing lake, Nottingham's Ice Rink, home of Torvill and Dean, and the famous mass football match at Ashbourne each Shrove Tuesday.

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
