Life in Plymouth - dubbed Britain's Ocean City - revolves around the water with various watersport clubs there is plenty of fun to be had. There is a local theatre, aquarium and lighthouse for you to visit. There are countless outdoor activities to undertake either up on Dartmoor doing the Duke of Edinburgh award or on the coast or out at sea. Visit the historic site on the Hoe where Sir Francis Drake spied the Armada whilst playing bowls, learn about Victorian Incarceration at the Dartmoor Prison museum or spend some time studying the animals at Dartmoor Zoo, star of the book and feature film We Bought A Zoo.

You can also visit the beautiful village of  Boscastle and its Museum of Witchcraft, splendour at King Arthur's mystical clifftop Tintagel Castle, or wonder at the space age bubbles of the Eden Project, whilst learning more about its environmental importance. You can even ride a zip wire over the site these days!

Plympton Swimming Pool

In the picturesque county of Devon just north of the city of Plymouth you will find Plympton. This is where Plympton Swimming Pool is situated.

Cotehele

Tudor house with superb collections, garden, quay and estate

Cotehele was the ancestral home to the Edgcumbe family for centuries. The Tudor house, perched high above the River Tamar, is decorated with tapestries, arms and armour, pewter, brass and old oak furniture. The interior tour has changed little over the years, although the furnishings were titivated as Cotehele continued to inspire its adoring owners.

Tintagel Castle

Set high on the rugged North Cornwall coast, visitors can enjoy dramatic sea views from the castle ruins on the headland and island. Steeped in myths and mystery, this is a spectacular place which has inspired artists and writers throughout history who have associated it with the legend of King Arthur and the story of Tristan and Isolde (Yseult).

Lawrence House

Built in 1753, Lawrence House is leased to Launceston Town Council and used as a local museum and civic centre.

The museum is spread over three floors with exhibits that focus predominantly on local history including Launceston's intriguing association with Australia.

Buckland Abbey, Garden and Estate

700-year-old home of Elizabethan seafarers Drake and Grenville.

​In the 13th century, Buckland Abbey was home to the Cistercian monks who built the abbey and the incredible Great Barn and farmed the then vast estate.

Set in 33 acres of beautiful woodland with some stunning views of the surrounding countryside, Dartmoor Zoological Park is a unique family owned zoo with a fantastic collection of animals.

Fowey Estuary

A spectacular coastline, combined with a lively working Cornish port, lends this area its unique character and charm. 

There's a network of footpaths to discover, making the area great walking country, with the South West Coast Path offering sweeping views and a few hilly challenges.

Dodman and Black Head

The Dodman is the highest headland on the south Cornish coast. Offering spectacular views, this area is also of great archaeological interest.

A massive Iron Age earthwork, nearly 666m long and over 6m high, encloses the headland. Over 2,000 years ago, this earthwork could have housed a series of dwellings, known collectively as a promontory fort or cliff castle.

Carnewas at Bedruthan

Dramatic coastline with views over huge rock stacks

Carnewas has become one of the most popular destinations on the north Cornish coast because of the spectacular cliff-top view of sea stacks stretching across Bedruthan beach (not Trust-owned).

Noss Mayo

The Elizabethan quay sits in an impressive amphitheatre of steep cliffs and is home to quaint stone-built cottages, shops and tea-rooms.
