Southend is home to award winning beaches. There are many water sports clubs to get involved in, including windsurfing, canoeing and kitesurfing. You can also enjoy the town’s leisure attractions, which include a theme park and the longest pleasure pier in the world. There is an annual Festival of the Air in May, plus an annual Film Festival. While in Leigh-on-Sea the Folk Festival and Sea Fishing Festival bring in the crowds.

Essex Wildlife Trust Thameside Visitor Centre and Nature Park

Stunning and innovative visitor centre built on a former landfill site, with superb views over Mucking Flats SSSI and the Thames Estuary (SPA). Footpaths and cycle ways in 120 acres of nature park, which will expand to 845 acres. Great birdwatching - and ship watching.

Prittlewell Priory

Why not pop along and see this stunning building which tells the story of its former residents. 

From the Cluniac Monks in the 13th Century to the Victorian Scratton family, the last people to live in this wonderful home.

Southend Planetarium

Southend Planetarium offers visitors an unique experience and can seat around 20 people. There is a changing programme of talks about astronomy and the night sky throughout the year.

The Planetarium is situated on the first floor within Central Museum.

Eversley Leisure Centre

Eversley Leisure Centre can be found in Basildon, Essex where it offers the local community a sports hall, activity halls, a gym and group cycling studio as well as free parking.

Although you might not think it today, the mount and surrounding lands are the remnant of an early medieval wooden motte and bailey castle built by Sweyn, Sheriff of Essex. Hadleigh Castle

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
