Derby is famous for helping to set the industrial revolution in to motion with the first powered silk mill and first powered cotton spinning mill in the world. Today it still continues championing its rich industrial heritage with the Rolls Royce museum, Royal Crown Derby and Railway Engineering factories. It is also home to the Royal School for the Deaf.

Wingfield Manor

The vast and immensely impressive ruins of a palatial medieval manor house arranged round a pair of courtyards, with a huge undercrofted Great Hall and a defensible High Tower 22 metres (72 feet) tall.
